Support our Project
Cambridge is where centuries of discovery have helped us understand our lives, and where centuries of art and creativity have helped us fill those lives with meaning and joy. Nearly ninety years ago, our founder believed that a trailblazing city deserved a groundbreaking theatre. We stay true to his vision today.
Many generations of amazing performers, writers and producers have found their calling here. We want to give courage, confidence and opportunity to the next. Many audiences have laughed, cried and discovered a lifelong love of theatre here. We want to share that gift with thousands more.
Decades of heavy use put our theatre at risk of closure. With thanks to the wonderful generosity of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, the first phase of our redevelopment project is underway: rebuilding our auditorium and transforming its technical infrastructure.
Phase two will create a new studio space within our historic building. The studio will offer an ambitious and vibrant new programme of performance, and learning and engagement activities for our community. To complete the project, and build a studio space high in our rooftops, we need your support.
Because the world needs Cambridge – and Cambridge needs The Arts.
How to get involved
We invite you to be a part of the most ambitious transformation of the Arts Theatre in our 90-year history, which will both revitalise our spaces, and create a bold new home for performance. This is more than a redevelopment, it’s the future of the arts in Cambridge.
Whether you’re a supporter, a theatre-lover, an artist or a change-maker, there’s a way for you to take part. Your voice, your presence and your support can help shape what happens next:
- Act now and make a donation to support our redevelopment.

Impact
Your support will have an incredible impact that will benefit not only our regular attendees and theatrical collaborators, but also our growing network of schools and community partners, and the many we hope to reach in the future. The positive effect will ripple out across the UK theatre industry as we increase our contribution of touring productions and vital professional development opportunities in creative and technical careers. Our ambitious redevelopment will redefine what our Theatre can be — a vibrant hub where creativity thrives, talent is nurtured, and every voice has a stage.
