Two Minutes with Rebecca Tinoco (Project Management)
Each month we will be interviewing someone within the Arts Theatre or project team, to share our memories of the theatre and a behind the scenes look at our transformational redevelopment.
What has been the most interesting challenge so far in the Arts Theatre’s redevelopment?
Uncovering the building and stripping the 1990s refurbishment was very interesting and also provided some significant challenges. Once we removed the finishes, we found the balcony structure was not constructed as anticipated which required a quick adaptation of the new steel to account for it. I love seeing the history of the building and imagining how it was first constructed in the 1930s.
Have you worked on any other theatre projects with Savills?
While I’ve worked across education, healthcare, industrial logistics, and super-prime residential, I hadn’t worked on a theatre before. I have really enjoyed getting to know the industry and learning the (get) ins and (get) outs. The passion of the theatre staff and the support from the client team have made this project truly rewarding.
What element of the redevelopment are you most looking forward to seeing come to life?
I’m really looking forward to seeing the new balcony installed, as it will mark a significant step in transforming the space. I’m also eager for the final stages and when the seating and lighting are in place and the space will feel like a theatre again. Seeing the stage lit up and ready for the panto will be the final achievement!
